Time to get green!

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Well I’ve seen a lot of fish tanks in my day, but one thing I’ve noticed is the lack of plants in many tanks. The next time you go pick up some aquarium supplies try out plant bulbs. Believe it or not these plant bulbs actually work very well. They will grow better than any of those expensive plants you can buy at an aquarium shop. They are very affordable with a pack of six bulbs costing maybe three dollars. I warn you though, they will grow extremely long and you will eventually have to trim them. Get a tank. You’ll love it.

Where’s the beef?

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

Have you ever gone to a fish store and looked into the fish tanks only to see listless and lethargic fish with drab colors.
A lot of time this is from the fish not receiving a high protein diet. Most fish food is full of dried foliage flakes of little to no nutritional value. I have found if you want your fish to really come alive, give them brine shrimp. It is very high in protein and the fish absolutely love it! Another great nutritional alternative is blood worms. It’s a bit messy because a lot falls to the bottom before fish can eat them.

Puppy Training 101

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

Anyone who has ever had a dog knows that training a new puppy is a challenge, but essential. With any new dog, puppy training starts the day that you bring your new pet home and continues for months as they continue to learn the basics becoming a part of the family. By the time you bring your new puppy home they are ready to learn. In fact, puppies can be trained from a very early age as long as we don’t expect too much of them right away. By natural design the mother dog has been educating her litter for several weeks, preparing them to survive on their own. By seven weeks the puppy’s development allows him to leave the mother and ensures the strongest human ties and best socialization possible. Older puppies may be less inclined to attach to humans right away, but eventually with love and affection and our constant interaction the bond will be just as strong. No matter what age you bring your puppy home, the important thing to remember is that they are ready to learn, they just need patience and practice!

Which Dog Training Course Is For You

Friday, February 5th, 2010

How do you choose the best dog training course for you and your dog? There are so many out there with manuals, videos, books etc. There are different methods and techniques that are used to train dogs. Most use some type of reward system. There is clicker training, dog whispering, leash training. To decide on which type of dog training you want to use, consider your lifestyle and also consider your dog’s personality. Dogs have different personalities and temperaments just like people. What if you are trying to train an older dog? Read reviews of dog training courses and find one that covers dog training from puppy through adulthood. Videos are really great to have so you can see and hear how the dog trainer responds to the dog. You also want a dog training course that will be fun for you and your dog.

Puppy Potty Training tips.

Monday, February 1st, 2010

PuppyPals.org - Puppy Potty Trainingtips. Put newspapers or puppy pads wherever you want him to go poop. Whenever he does it somewhere else, spray it with perfume, and tell him NO! Then start taking him outside every 1 hour. The next day take him out every 2 hours. The next 3, then 4, then 5. And take her out for a walk about 2-3 times a day, short walks. Or 1-2 long walks a day. If you don’t have enough time for walks, buy a tread mill, then tie his leash around where you put your hands/arms, then turn the speed on slow at first, then go faster to a joggers pace. At first let her use the tread mill 5-10 minutes a day, then go up to 30 minutes, or a little more. If you want him to walk for an hour, then go very slow, walking. But don’t overwork her, because he may have a very fast heart beat. Overtime, he may get used to walking without the leash on the tread mill. Good Luck :)

Choosing the right Dog Coat for your Dog

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Your dog can benefit from wearing a high quality Waterproof Dog Coat as it can provide them with extra warm and it can also provide your Dog with extra protection from the rain and when you take then for walks through the bush from the scraps and grazes from outlying bushes. If your Dog is an active outdoor dog then buying a Dog Coat for them is one of the best investments you can make.
One thing that you need to remember though is that not all Dog Coats are created equal. Coats differ greatly in terms of quality both in regards to the material they are made from and also in terms of the way they fit your dog.
First of all you need to ensure that the coat that you purchase is the right size. If the coat is too small your Dog will likely find it uncomfortable and if it’s too tight then the coat may not fit at all. As dogs have a tendency to get themselves into a wide range of situations you don’t want a coat that has any loose ends as your dog could get tangled up. To get the perfect measurements for the coat, measure the distance from the base of the dogs neck to the base of the tail. If in doubt always go a size up and ensure that you leave a little bit of room if you expect your dog.
Another point of consideration is too ensure that the Dog Coat is water resistant. A waterproof Dog Coat will keep your dogs fur dry from the rain and also from wet and dew covered bushes and grass.
High quality dog coats should also have practical features such as openings for harness leashes, quick adjustment closures, and enough room for your pooch to relieve himself without making a mess.
My recommendation for the perfect coat is the Ultimate 2-in-1 Four Seasons performance dog coat. In the colder months the coat has a removable polar fleece lining for extra winter warmth and the warmers months the coat has a waterproof/breathable outer coat.
The Ultimate 2-in-1 Performance Dog Coat is a unique design, featuring an innovative concept, which produces total adaptability to the weather. For colder months, the polar fleece lining provides the comfort and warmth to protect against the cold. As the weather improves, the fleece lining can be removed, leaving a lightweight, waterproof and breathable jacket to combat the vagaries of the British weather.

The Four Seasons 2-in-1 also features full chest protection, light reflective beading and light reflective central fastening straps for extra safety at night, as well as easy Velcro fastening.
So if you are looking for a dog coat for your dog make sure that you measure your dog before you shop and get a well-fitting dog coat that’ll keep your dog safe and warm!

Easy to Maintain Fish and Aquarium

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Many people enjoy watching fish as they swim around in their aquarium. For new aquarium hobbyists, the easiest type of fish tank to maintain is a small three to five gallon fresh water tank. Freshwater tanks are very easy to maintain; and the easiest type of fish to choose is the Guppy. Guppies are tropical fish which only need warm water and a little food everyday to have a normal healthy life. The hobbyist can decide what type of flora they would like to use in the fish tank; and whether or not they would like to use live plants or artificial plants.

Initial Aquarium Setup

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

When setting up an aquarium for the first time, it is important to wash and rinse all aquarium components carefully before assembling and adding the fish. The tank itself should be rinsed well both inside and out with warm tap water without the use of cleaners. Gravel should be washed in a bucket until water runs clear. Decorative wood or rock should be rinsed carefully, preferably under pressure, and any collected driftwood should be boiled first and completely immersed in water for several weeks before adding to the aquarium plants. Although beautiful, coral and sea shells should not be used in a freshwater aquarium.
