Can untreated infection cause pre-term labour? 29weeks?

I’m 28 weeks pregnant. I saw my doctor on Thursday because I was bleeding and he said that my cervix was irritated and I might have an infection. The spotting has been happening for a couple weeks. I’m going to see my doctor next week. So if it is an infection can it cause pre-term labour??? Thanks

yes kidney infection and many other infection can sometimes lead to preterm labor.
