If you are at risk for pre-term labor, then the first thing you should have done was call the hospital or your doctor. You are likely just experiencing Braxton-Hicks contractions. At 37 weeks, you are hardly at risk for pre-term labor any longer. Of course, this depends upon the individual (uncertain LMP, other growth issues). My children were born at 35 1/2 and 37 weeks, and both were healthy and over 7 pounds each. I was in preterm labor with one from 20 weeks until delivery at 35.5 weeks. My other was high risk due to gestational diabetes and ovarian cysts. I went to the hospital many times for abnormal pains. They are equipped to handle it, and have seen enough pregnancies, they will have a pretty good idea whether it is something normal or not.

Let your OB/GYN know about the pains at your weekly visit. However, when in dobut, call the OB ward of the hospital where you are to deliver. They can offer much insight and let you know if it is something that should be checked out.

Don't wait next time!!! If you are high risk for anything, you need to keep your Dr. informed on anything abnormal that may be happening. At this point in time, light bleeding could be associated with dilation or with the passing of the mucus plug. If you experience heavy bleeding. get to the ER immediately!

Take care & best wishes!
References :
You should not bleed while you are pregnant, if you do, call your doctor asap. The cramps are probably due to the stretching of your uterus. If the contractions are uncomfortable but don't hurt, you're probably having Braxton Hicks or "false labor". If you were in labor, you'd feel pain.

Good luck!
References :
Most likely you were having contractions, but if you're concerned, call your doctor. Since you're 37 weeks, your labor would not be considered pre-term at this point - labor within the last 4 weeks of pregnancy is considered full term.
References :
If you do go into labor at this time. I am pretty sure you and baby will do excellent. I am a MA so trust me. I had a baby a 31 weeks and baby is doing wonderful. They may give you steriods to help speed the babies lung production up if they feel you cannot wait but they also may not all depends on baby. Your baby will be absolutely fine at 37 weeks.
References :
I was high risk for preterm labor with both my children (both were premature). At 37 weeks you are for the most part considered "term" if you were to go into labor today they would allow you to give birth. In fact at 36 weeks they will not stop labor and will allow the child to be born. As for you claiming your menstrual period will come back in your 37th week of pregnancy are you insane? If your cramping go to the Dr and get checked.
References :
There are rare instances where pregnant women still continue to have their periods, or spot ( meaning small amounts of blood).

The only way you are going to know for sure is if you go to the doctor and have them check you out.
