Absolutely!! My baby was just born on the 29th, and she's 6 weeks early. She's been in the Special Care Nursery for two weeks now, and should be going home by the end of the week (FINALLY!!). My parents (especially my mother) cant understand why her and my dad cant travel here and visit the baby at our house for the holidays. My baby's doctor has advised that with her being so early, not to allow her to interact with anyone who doesnt live in the home until she hits her would've been due date. That is the first week of January. She said that its too great of a risk to the baby to chance it because of the RSV factor. My husband's family understands about all this, but mine is freaking out on me about it and acting like it's something personal against them.

So, I completely understand how you are feeling.
References :
Not this year but when my 29 weeker was little we did the same thing. You do what's right for your baby and everyone else can just get over it...and they will.

The shot is a good idea (they didn't have it when mine was little). If you can't afford it and your insurance doesn't cover it, ask your local health dept. In IL you pay $15/shot and sign a form verifying your insurance doesn't cover it. I know they have all the regular immunizations and the HPV vaccine, they might have the RSV vaccine for high-risk infants.
References :
YES, I totally understand what you are going through. Have you gotten the shots to prevent RSV? We have not due to the fact that its 1200.00 per shot and our insurance will not cover it, and you have to pay for each shot as you get them, we can not afford this, so we have been very careful with our baby. He was born at 32 weeks so he could easily get RSV. Scary scary thing. As for others not understanding, thats tough, but you are the parent and its your right to do what you think is best, good for you for standing up and doing what you believe is right. Im right there with you, good luck to you and happy holidays!
