What store carries a good selection of the smallest preemie clothes (1-3 pound size)?
My friends just had a baby who weighs 1.5 pounds. The baby will be in the hospital for 2 months. I know clothes aren’t practical, but I want to give them a couple of sleepers/hats anyway, in addition to some other things. If you have been in this situation yourself, what are some other gifts that you appreciated or could have used, either for yourself or the baby? I’m already planning on offering housecleaning help and meals.
Thanks!

My oldest was pretty small 5 lbs 6 oz and didn’t fit into any of the preemie clothes i could find, we used doll clothes. There are a bunch of them out there that are very well made for like baby dolls for kids. make sure if you go that route that you find something that is made very close to real baby clothes, a bunch of the dolly things have horribly itchy seams and such but you can find them.. Also, if you know someone with a sewing maching they might be able to take a newborn onesie and make it smaller. Good for you that you are so supportive of your friend, I am sure they need you right now cause having a preemie is hard enough!

Doll clothes may be best for a baby that small.
As for the things that I appreciated, it was a couple of hours to have dinner with my husband… maybe you could offer to come over and watch the baby. Even if they just have dinner at home, it’s nice to have a couple hours with your spouse and someone else can rock the baby or change the diapers.

I would look more into hats and socks and the little gloves to prevent them from scratching their delicate skin. Most of the time preemies don’t wear much except a little diaper, so the hospital can take better care of them.
For a baby that small you are going to have a hard time finding clothing that fits right away. But, you can still get the preemie clothing that will fit when the baby goes home from the hospital. You can most likely get the regular preemie size for that. Make sure it is very very soft, and warm. Because it sounds like the baby will be coming home in november/december where the weather can be cold. You can also give them regular size clothing as well. The baby is going to grow, and will soon enough fit into the regular sizes.
I would also give something very special for the mom and dad, like flowers or even a donation to a charity like march of dimes. They are going through a really hard time right now, because it is very hard taking care of a baby that small.
I do think the housecleaning is a great idea. Also meals. You can even do that now. They are very busy with taking care of the baby in the hospital and are most likey not having time to cook a nice warm meal. It would be very nice to have a warm cooked meal when they get home at night. Just get something they can put in the oven for a short time.
