I had open heart surgery because I was a premature infant, how does that affect me now that I’m older?

I’m trying to have better stamina, but I’m wondering if my heart surgery/heart size has anything to do with my poor performance, and tips on health care would be appreciated as well. =) Thanks!

If the surgery was when you were a child, chances are it healed up by now.

  2. Looks like it affected you judgment, since you are asking 12 year old "experts" here and not your doctor.

  3. Most ailments and conditions can be lived with if you follow a healthy lifestyle. Of course there are exceptions, but I don’t think this is one of them. Poor performance is also a symptom of just being out of physical shape. Especially if you fully recovered when you were young, side effects would probably be negligible. Just start slowly and build up over months and months. You will be more successful if you can be consistent over the long term; intensity is not as important as the former.

Of course, when talking about anything related to open heart surgery and beginning an exercise regiment, you will definitely want to consult a physician(s).
