If triplets are born, but one passes away…?

If triplets are born but one of the babies passes on due to prematurity or some other natural cause, what are the two remaining babies called?

Are they still considered triplets or are they now twins?

They were born triplets, they’ll always be triplets legally. As a parent I’d say twins so I didn’t have to discuss a baby’s death anytime I met new people.

They are triplets. My sons father was a twin, and the twin passed away while he was still in the womb. But he was still considered a twin.

    Depends on the parent.
I know a woman in my mothers group, who lost a triplet and calls her kids twins.
They will always be triplets, but she calls them twins, because it is painful for her to remember losing the third.

They are triplets. But, I have a friend who this happened to. To keep from making things uncomfortable for her sons they always called themselves "twins". They are perfectly aware that a third was born and passed shortly after.
