You did not mention how old your child is and what was his measurments at birth. That's the only way one can tell.

Good luck
References :
No not necessarily. He may be short but he may grow and be as tall as his dad you never know. The 7th percentile is just that your baby is taller than 7% of babies his age. Don't worry about it he'll probably grow like crazy when he gets bigger.
References :
I would guess he's just in need of a little catching up. especially since if you age adjust he's long.
References :
It very well could do with his prematurity. Most preemies do catch up growth within the first two years, though. It doesn't necessarily mean anything at this point, especially when he starts going through growth spurts. I just took my son in for his 18 month appointment and he shot up into the 95th percentile for growth(he's 35 inches now).
References :
no, it means he is short right now... no one can really predict how big he'll get... you are better off looking at yourself and your husband.. are you two short?tall?... that is reall a better indication than his 4 month check up

my son measured at the top for height & head and middle for weight til about a year, not i swear it seems like he stopped growing, he's 2 now... but mom & dad are short soi;m not surprised his growth is slowing down :)
References :
Not to worry... it's difficult to predict what the height when they are infants. Most pediatricians can give you a good idea how tall a child will be when they turn 2 years of age... listen to your doctor "it doesn't have anything to do with his prematurity."
For now enjoy your little man and patiently wait for your baby to turn 2 to get an accurate answer:)
