Possible protection against cerebral palsy

Most moms will carry her baby to term, while one out of ten will have a premature birth. Prematurity and low birth weights are leading causes of developmental disabilitiessuch as cerebral palsy. A new study involving University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill researchers shows that liquid Epsom Salt may be protective.

Helping premature babies get ahead

URI professor Judith Mercer talks about the benefits of delaying umbilical cord clamping for very low birth weight babies. Delaying for just 30-45 seconds at birth causes less bleeding in babies’ brains, and fewer infections, and the babies nursed better, were warmer, and cried less.
